Franka Potente in Lola rennt (1998)
I recently (and by recently, I mean yesterday) came across a very interesting and insightful blog post from Tavi of The Style Rookie about feminism and the way that women are portrayed in the 21st century. Tavi never ceases to amaze me, she is just absolutely perfect in every way, and she's one of the most bad-ass, kick-ass, awkward, mid teenager awkward faze, feminist, I know. Tavi's post inspired my own little feminism/inspiration/women post.
The female/male gender barrier has always been a problem, it's a problem in my school, it's a problem in NYC, it's a problem all over the world, you could even say it's a world wide epidemic, um okay, let's not get too far ahead of ourselves there. I'd definitely say that males are more predominant in society, it's been like that for a long time, does anyone really know why? That was a rhetorical question by the way. It is a very sad world, where so many boys (especially the teenage years) are so ignorant, dense, and close-minded. The way that boys in my school treat the girls is just absolutely atrocious and what's even worse is that us girls don't even do anything about, we'll just laugh along and pretend we don't mind and eventually it'll just sink into our minds and we'll just become numb. No one has balls, it's like it just became a part of our daily lives, sometimes I just wish I could climb on a desk yell "FUCK YOU ALL, WOMENPOWER4LYF!" but sadly, no. The boys are even incredibly rude and disrespectful to the teachers that are women, these boys do not have a bone of consciousness in their body, they'll even go out their way to bully a girl that isn't very popular or different from everyone else. Teenage boys -and I'm not saying that all teenage boys are like this- don't realize how much damage they can do to a young girl, it could scar her forever, it could change her, it could affect her future, it could ruin her.
But lately, us girls and women have also been making our mark in the world, we have been letting the world know that we're just as equal as men, gender doesn't make us any different, we were all born the same, we're all human beings, we talk alike, we walk alike, we learn from each other, so why can't we just be equal?
recommended from Tavi, I do plan on watching this soon~
